The 7-stage rigorous engineering methodology behind every premium rebuild at Lemiza Afrirail.
Every locomotive begins with a comprehensive fault diagnosis and full strip-down evaluation. Our engineers document the state of all components, capturing photos, measurements, and test readings to determine the precise rebuild scope and generate a fixed-price quotation.
Heavy duty chemical baths, grit blasting, and ultrasonic cleaning remove decades of grime and corrosion. Components are carefully sorted into reuse, refurbish, or replace categories. The chassis is stripped to bare metal for full structural integrity assessment.
Complete overhauls of the prime mover, bogie frames, compressors, and running gear. Our in-house CNC machining, line-boring, and welding ensures all mechanical tolerances meet or exceed OEM specifications, with NDT validation at each critical stage.
HT and LT caballing, control stand rebuilds, and traction motor refurbishment. Obsolete wiring is replaced with modern fire-retardant loom systems. PLC and CPU control modules are rebuilt and tested, and all HT circuits are Hi-Pot validated.
The locomotive is carefully reassembled using refurbished and new upgraded parts, following strict torque and alignment protocols. Every fastener, seal, and gasket is replaced to OEM specification. Our parallel workflow ensures minimal assembly time without compromising quality.
Application of heavy-duty anti-corrosive epoxy primers and protective topcoats, followed by custom client branding and livery in our dedicated spray booths. All surfaces are prepared to Sa 2.5 blast standard to ensure maximum coating adhesion and longevity.
Rigorous multi-phase validation against SANS 10052-1 and PRASA VO17 standards. The locomotive undergoes load bank engine testing, high-pressure pneumatic validation, Hi-Pot electrical testing, brake efficiency checks, and finally active track trials before sign-off and handover.
